Find

A fun little lamp with a story.

I was in Park City with my sister in law, and we went down to the local Christian Center. Which is a thrift store. Well, I saw this cute little lamp at the back of the top shelf, and it looked like it was made out of dark teal glass. When the lady pulled it down however it was just plain black. Sad. I decided to buy it anyway.

When I got it home I painted it in Annie Sloan's Duck Egg Blue. As I was painting it I noticed a really cool effect happening. A little rust was starting to pull to the surface. Not planned, but I love how it turned out.

If you have ever used Annie Sloan's chalk paint you know she says to use furniture was to seal her paint. I wanted to know if you could use anything else. Since this was a small item I thought it would be the perfect guinea pig. I sprayed on some polyurethane. And Presto! One sealed lamp.

The shade was sturdy but had water spots on the fabric, so I took the old fabric off and recovered with a butter yellow linen.

I think the lamp wanted to be teal, and was speaking to me from the shelf. Well, I listened, and am thrilled with the results!
