Find

Let me give you a little background on myself before the I tell you about my first find.

I am a mother of four and wife to a fantastic elementary school teacher. His career choice has led to many different adventures due to our lack of funds! The two homes we have owned we have worked our tails off so wecould have the kind of home we wanted at a price we could afford. The plus side to all our sweat equity is we have developed a wide array of skills, and I am pretty confident with power tools!

Recently during my hubby's pursuit to provide for our family we found ourselves selling our newly finished home (lived in for 11 months) and moving to a little town in Wyoming with a population of less then 2000. I know it was the guilt talking when he told me I could take up any hobbies I wanted once we got there since he was moving me hours away from friends and family, but when a gal is handed a gift like that you take it and run. So here is my first lap!

There is a little antique/thrift shop in the town we moved to. Luckily for me I met the owner at church before I saw her shop and we became fast friends. I've always been drawn to sassy older ladies and Veda does not disappoint! I found this little beauty upside-down in a lean-to and when I saw that the caning was in great condition I had to snag her. (don't mind the bird poop on the back of the chair, I washed that off!)

I really liked the legs on this chair they looked perfect for a few scuffs and scrapes.

Here's a close-up of the doo-doo and the fun knobs on the back of the chair

I have been blog stalking many ladies as they started using Annie Sloan Chalk Paint, hearing their reviews and weighing the cost vs quality. I finally bit the bullet and bought a few (4) cans. I didn't want to pay shipping so I bought them in Park City when we went home for a visit, and promptly painted this little lady when I got home.

I used Old White, and Clear Wax

After I had her all painted up and lookin pretty I had to decide on fabric for the seat. I love the Old White finish, but felt like the chair needed something lively to set your tushy on.

I settled on a pretty floral from Fabric.com. This chair just makes me happy when I look at it! The colors are so fresh. I would love to keep her, but my plan from the start was to sell the items I made/refinished to pay for my new hobbies! My sis-in-law is putting together a boutique in October, and I will be selling this chair and the many other items to come at the boutique. More details to come on that in a later post!

I hope you liked my first find and hope you come back to see what else I dig up, or build myself!
